I'm writing this review as a runner using an iPod Touch 4g. Others have commented on the technical specs/aspects of this device so I won't comment further other than to say this has been a trusty, accurate device so far. I am thoroughly satisfied with how the UltiMate GPS has performed and, as others have said, the customer service is excellent. They are very quick to respond to questions and will do what they can in their power to be helpful. Therefore my rating is definitely 5 stars!
Like I said, I'm using an iPod Touch. As running is my primary use for the UltiMate GPS (though I continue to find additional outdoor, athletic activity uses for it), I needed to find an armband and app that would make the iPod/GPS unit usable and user-friendly. Armband: after a little looking in stores (though not at all exhaustive) and quite a bit of web searching, the Wahoo Fitness Wahoo Armband for iPhone rose to the surface as the most likely candidate that had room to accommodate the iPod with the UltiMate GPS attached. It fits well and protects the entire unit from sweat as well (and advertised to protect from rain though I haven't had it out in the rain, yet). I just make sure I get a satellite lock before strapping it to my arm and then I'm ready to go. App: after trying out MapMyRun, MapMyRun+ and RunKeeper, my app of choice is RunKeeper. It gives me time, distance, current pace (which does a lot of jumping around), avg pace, mile splits, and even a map if I want. The benefit I find for it over the others is that it is not internet dependent. In other words, I can start a run apart from a wifi connection and/or I can finish a run without wifi and it will allow me to save the details of the run until a later time when it connects to wifi to upload the data. Sometimes the map is not available when not in wifi, but after it connects to wifi the map/route shows up with the data. If you plan to use the UltiMate GPS for running, this is a great combo for at least a starting point. I've also used it for unicycling, walking, etc. Another app that is useful is Gaia GPS - meant for hiking, but useful for other applications as well, even keeping track of info (mileage, travel time, altitude, etc) while on a road trip.
Though there are other GPS add-ons for iDevices out there, from my experience with the UltiMate GPS and its support staff, I would highly recommend this little attachment to anyone who wants to turn their iPod into a more multi-use device. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.
